The terribly cold winter much of the nation is experiencing reminded me that climate change is one of the greatest challenges we face as a human family. In 2008, we declared ourselves an Earth Church and adopted the covenant printed below.  I hope that in 2014 both as individuals and as a church we do what we can to live up to the spirit of this covenant.

Pilgrim Church accepts God’s call to become an Earth Church. This covenantal relationship is in keeping with God’s declaration to establish a bond of commitment and responsibility with every part of Creation (Genesis 9). We seek to be as inclusive as God’s love in our circle of caring.

We commit ourselves to practice conscientious, consistent, and faithful stewardship of the Earth and all its inhabitants.

Pilgrim Church pledges to develop sustainable practices, modeling to the world around us a responsible, green approach in all areas of our life together. God’s evolving creation is intricately interrelated. Its intertwinings involve us both as participants and as stewards. Within this creation God shows us the way to live sustainably.

Pilgrim Church celebrates the beauty and resourcefulness of the Earth. We dedicate ourselves to loving, faithful action on behalf of all creation.

We intend to be comprehensive by transforming our minds through education, our spirits through worship, our hearts and hands through sustainable practices, our resources through intentional planning, and our consciousness through discipleship.

Justice, Stewardship, Sustainability and Sufficiency:  we lift up these faith principles within our ministry to protect God’s world.

We establish this covenant with our Creator God and with each other as a community of faith. Pilgrim Church hereby declares itself to an Earth Church.
